Chris Vaught is the owner of Carson Dog Sports. Chris has been involved with animals her entire life, growing up riding and competing in horse events including 3-Day Eventing and Western classes. She has a B.S. degree in Equine Management and Business and Economics. Chris has been involved in training dogs and competitive dog sports for 16 years. She is a cross-over trainer, having first learned dog training through aversive means, and quickly realizing there had to be a better way. She found clicker training and loved the bond it formed between animal and owner, and is to this day fascinated watching animals learn. Chris has attended many positive reinforcement seminars and clinics, including graduating from Level 1 and 2 Chicken Camps taught by Bob Bailey.
She began competing in UKC obedience in 1993 with her first dog, Ebony, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. Chris was introduced to agility in 1997 and has gone on to compete in NADAC Championships in 2001 and 2002, finishing 6th in the 16-inch Veterans Division and 1st in the Veterans Team Division in 2002 with Ebony. Her 1st Kelpie, Tika, is also a four-time USDAA Grand Prix Semi-finalist and placed 6th at NADAC Nationals as a 3 year old in the Pre-Elite Division. Ebony was titled in obedience (U-CDX), a double agility champion (ASCA ATCH and NADAC NATCH), and she was a Mixed Breed Conformation champion. Tika has her agility championships in NADAC and USDAA (ADCH), and earned her first herding title at 11 1/2 years old in 2009. Chris has also earned 2 Championship herding titles (ASCA WTCH and AHBA HTCH) on her Kelpie, Cimarron. Chris has several Kelpies and a Papillon/Toy Fox Terrier. She competes regularly in stock dog trials and agility.
Chris is a Masters level USDAA judge, having judged for 9 years. She has been teaching agility for 11 years. She is a current professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and is credentialed as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). |
