Obedience Level II

Obedience Level II – Designed for handlers who has successfully completed Basic Obedience and wanting more out of their dog or wanting to compete in Obedience.  Asking the dog to remain in Heel position including the About turn, Right turn, Left turn, and during Fast and Slow paces on-leash.  Also working on Sit, Stand, and Down Stays.  New exercises are Dog’s Attention, the Figure 8, footwork, and the Finish to the Left.   Distraction training and proofing of the dog for each of the exercises.  Understanding your dog and being able to move him through his different drives: Pack, Prey, and Defense.

Heeling (on lead) 

  • Focus attention Heeling
  • How to motivate your dog
  • Footwork of Turns
  • How to move from on-leash heeling to off-leash heeling
  • Changes of pace from normal to fast
  • Changes of pace from normal to slow
  • About turns
  • Left turns
  • Right turns
  • Pivots
  • Halts
  • A Figure-Eight (with two people acting as the posts)
Stand for Exam 

  • Standing the dog
  • Leaving the dog with a Stay command
  • Dog allowing the Judge to approach and place hands on them
  • The handler returning to heel position
  • Releasing the dog on the handler’s command

Recall

  • Leaving the dog on a Sit/Stay
  • Calling the dog
  • Having the dog come front
  • Having the dog return to heel position

Long Stays

  • Stand/Stay
  • Sit/Stay  – for  1 minute
  • Down/Stay – for 3 minutes
