Class Progression Policy
If you are attending classes in the Competition Track at Carson Dog Sports, you will notice that there are pre-requisites to most of the classes that read, “Successful completion of XXXX class.”
What does that mean and why is it a requirement?
Well, the why is easy… in order to be fair to all students, classes need to be comprised of dogs/handlers that are at a similar place in their training. Many of the skills as you progress through your training build significantly on skills you learned in your earlier classes. If the class is comprised of dog/handler teams who are really in different places in their understanding and skill level, it will result in much more time being spent with those dogs who are not up to speed. In order to facilitate efficient and effective progression of classes, students will need to possess certain minimum skill sets to proceed to the next level class.
Classes are structured so that if you spend the minimum amount of time outside of class practicing, you and your dog will become proficient in the skills taught in that class. Should you, for whatever reason, have issues and not gain the skill set before the end of the class, you have several options available to you.
1) you can repeat the class.
2) you can schedule a private lesson or two to address the issues more specifically.
3) since you will have been given all the tools you need to adequately teach the skills, you can work on them on your own and then come back and get assessed by an instructor once you feel you have adequately learned the skills.
With any option you choose, the instructors will provide you as much help as they can to help you achieve your objective and move on to the next level.
